Installing Oracle Java7 JDK on Ubuntu 12.04

Posted on May 15, 2012 by Leo Gaggl

If you really need Oracle Java (some applications seem to insist on it) on Ubuntu here is the procedure using a PPA.

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:webupd8team/java
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install oracle-java7-installer

HT to WebUpd8 http://ppa.webupd8.org/

[...] Note: If you do not need Java 6 it’s much safer to stick to the current Oracle Java 7 release. [...]

If you don’t have the command … sudo add-apt-repository ppa:webupd8team/java

this will help you fixing your problems:

This works like charm. I wasted many hours trying to get this done via Software Center but JDK failed to enable in my Firefox. Thanks a million for your help.
