Just some memory aid to help remember how to set up DVB cards in Ubuntu:

apt-get install dvb-apps dvbstream w-scan
w_scan -c AU -X > channels.conf

You can use this channels.conf with a number of TV players (MeTV, MythTV,…) however I prefer the no-nonsense interface of VLC

vlc channels.conf

Here is the example output (for those in Adelaide, South Australia you can just save this into channels.conf):

    Hey, thanks a heap for this. As it happens I live in Adelaide and have spent the last day and a half trying to get my new EZCap 646 happening in Ubuntu 10.04. Finally … and this was the last piece to the puzzle. Working great now. ;)

    I found an old one but didn’t have 11, Gem, Go, etc. For some reason I can’t create a channels.conf that picks up anything, regardless of what I’ve tried in the terminal. When I run the command you’ve used (before I read this) it generates a file but the scan picks up nothing so there’s nothing in the file.

    Cheers again. There’s a couple more than this also. Got any idea where I might find them.

    Hey thanks for this, finally something in australia. I got 12.10 and i bought a Medion DVB-T (MD 86802) P89133 . It uses Siano Nice Silicon chip.

    From lsusb : 187f:0202 Siano Mobile Silicon Nice

    and i have trouble setting it up… i got the dvb_nova_12mhz_b0.inp off drivers in win7 (wen i installed it on a windows 7) and copied into lib/firmware and ran dmesg. Sometimes it successfully registers the device but sometimes it doesnt. Can u help me out ? I bought this from ALDI and im from melbourne.

    Unfortunately can’t assist on that. The DVB tuner I used was a built-in Toshiba unit. No idea on that particular USB unit – sorry.

    For the Medion DVB-T (MD 86802) P89133

    copy firmware (dvb_nova_12mhz_b0.inp) from the driver disc to /lib/firmware

    sudo modprobe smsdvb

    then start the TV viewing program.

    The Medion DVB-T (MD 86802) P89133 uses a Siano Nice chip 187f:0202
